For a baby's naming ceremony, first rice feeding and first haircut, at home, in a temple or a hall.

Families often remember the venue, food and decoration and forget the one thing that keeps the day: someone to photograph it. Read why we made these lists.

Child ceremonies questions

What is needed for a Mundan ceremony?

A date and muhurat from the pandit, a barber experienced with babies, a clean cloth, antiseptic and haldi or sandal paste, the puja samagri, and dakshina and gifts for the pandit and the barber. Some families go to a particular temple or tirth.

What happens at Annaprashan?

Annaprashan is the baby’s first feeding of rice, usually kheer from a silver spoon or bowl, after a small puja. Keep the baby fed and rested beforehand and follow your family’s custom.
