How GI.EVENTS can help with Florists
Fresh flowers carry meaning in Indian weddings, from the varmala the couple exchange to the marigold strings over a doorway and the petals showered at the vidaai. A florist chooses blooms that suit the season, the colours and the heat of the day. GI.EVENTS helps you describe the floral pieces you need, the colours and the venue timings, then request a shortlist of florists. Profiles appear only after review, and flower availability and prices are confirmed directly with each florist.
- Planning varmalas, garlands, bouquets and floral jewellery for each function
- Choosing seasonal flowers that hold up in heat, rain or long evenings
- Coordinating mandap, stage and car flowers with the decorator
- Planning petal showers, entrance strings and flower rangoli
- Timing deliveries so flowers arrive fresh for each ritual
What to share in your brief
- Functions, dates and venue timings
- Floral pieces you need, such as varmalas or car decoration
- Colours, flowers or traditions you prefer
- Whether a decorator is already booked
Questions to ask before you book
- Which flowers are in season for our dates, and what would you use if one is unavailable?
- Can we see recent varmalas, garlands or floral jewellery you made?
- When will each piece be delivered, and how do you keep it fresh?
- Will you work with our decorator, or do you handle the mandap flowers too?
- What do you use in place of thermocol for bases and backdrops?
Rules worth knowing
- Since 1 July 2022, identified single-use plastic items are banned in India, including polystyrene (thermocol) for decoration and plastic sticks for balloons. Ask your florist which bases and fixings they use instead. Source: Central Pollution Control Board: single-use plastic ban press release (17 June 2022)
Rules change and differ by state and venue, so check the current position for your date and place. This is general information, not legal advice.

Common questions
Should flowers come from the decorator or a separate florist?
Either can work. Many decorators include flowers in their set-up, while a separate florist can be useful for varmalas, floral jewellery or small functions at home. Share what is already arranged so the work is not duplicated.
Which flowers last best in summer?
Hardier flowers such as marigolds, orchids and carnations usually cope better with heat than delicate blooms. Your florist can suggest what is in season for your dates and how to keep each piece fresh on the day.
Can GI.EVENTS help find florists for an event in my city?
On request, yes. GI.EVENTS facilitates events throughout India and can help you request a shortlist of florists for your city, subject to verification of local capacity. The site does not list florists for every city, and availability, scope and prices are confirmed directly before anything is booked.
